Australia will not recommend a fifth dose of Covid vaccine

Public health officials in Australia announced on November 15 that they were rejecting a third coronavirus vaccination booster. Although an increase in the number of contaminations and hospitalizations is observed, theHealth Minister Mark Butler and Australian Immunization Technical Board (ATTime.news) Chief Medical Officer Paul Kelly believe a fifth dose of the Covid vaccine for all ages would have a “minimal impact” on reducing the transmission of the virus in the country.

During an eventful press conference on Tuesday, November 15, the Australian Minister of Health explained that he based his decision to reject a third recall on “recent evidence” from Singapore. Mr Butler says serious illnesses and deaths in the Southeast Asian country were rare among people who received at least two doses of the vaccine.

He points out that the number of positive cases in Australia has increased by 47% in the past week, but nevertheless remains at 85% below the peak recorded in July 2022. Like Paul Kelly, based on the Singaporean experience, he predicts a rapid peak of this wave before a drop in the number of cases.

New recommendations concerning possible new reminders of the anti-Covid vaccine will nevertheless be formulated again at the beginning of next year.

Vaccinated mostly hospitalized

He continues, still referring to recent data from the Singapore experience, that “Omicron variants currently in circulation are not a major threat to public health”.
