Mollie O’Callaghan won her second world title in the 100m freestyle.

Australian Mollie O’Callaghan was crowned world champion in the 100m freestyle on Thursday in Budapest.

She won her second title in Hungary after the one gleaned with the Australian 4x100m relay on Saturday. Sweden’s Sarah Sjoestroem finished in silver, American Torri Huske in bronze. Frenchwoman Marie Wattel finished 7th.

At 18 years and 82 days, she is the youngest winner of the 100m freestyle in a world championship since 1991, and the title of the American Nicole Haislett, then aged 18 years and 22 days.

The Australian swimmer, thanks to her time of 52 sec 67/100, beat the Swedish world record holder Sarah Sjostrom (52.80) and the American Torri Huske, crowned in the 100m butterfly last Sunday.

Mollie O’Callaghan’s title is the third for Australia, the 9th medal overall.
