The Australian was met with malice and criticism after her arrival in Paris, but the Olympic Committee disagreed.
36-year-old Australian Rachael Gunn alias “Raygun” finished last week in the finals at the Olympics. She scored 0 points in the three preliminary round battles, but caused a stir with unusual moves, including a “kangaroo dance”.
Gunn, who works as a university professor, was heavily criticized for her appearance in her home country, with parodies circulating online and even on US late-night shows.
An online petition launched in Australia and signed by 40,000 people is now going too far for the Australian Olympic Committee (AOC). He claims that Gunn manipulated his way into qualifying for the Olympics.
“Hate and bullying”
AOC boss Matt Carroll said the petition contains many lies that incite hatred against an athlete selected for the Olympic team after transparent and independent qualification. He demanded the portal change.org take the petition offline.
Carroll called the anonymous petition “bullying and defamatory. No athlete who represented her country at the Olympics should be treated like this.”
