Jannik Sinner (ATP 4) reached the semi-finals of the Australian Open. The Italian dominated the Russian Andrey Rublev (ATP 5) in three sets, 6-4 7-6 (7/5) 6-3.
He will face world number one Novak Djokovic in the next round. Rublev thus once again failed in the quarter-finals of a Grand Slam tournament.
The Russian undoubtedly missed his chance in the tie-break of an interminable second set (1h19): he led 5/1 before losing the next six points and all his illusions. In the third set, the Italian made the break in the sixth game to lead 4-2.
Sinner (22 years old) has never played in a Grand Slam final. To achieve this, he will have to dismiss Djokovic who has not lost a single match in Melbourne each time he has reached the last four.
