Australian T20 captain Finch announces retirement from international cricket

Australian T20 captain and all-rounder Aaron Finch has announced his retirement from international cricket. Captain Finch, who won the T20 World Cup for the Australian team. 36-year-old Aaron Finch has played 254 international matches for the Australian team so far.

He has played 146 ODIs, 103 T20Is and 5 Tests for Australia. He has also led Australia in 76 T20Is and 55 ODIs. He was part of Australia’s team that won the ODI World Cup (2015) and T20 World Cup (2021). In the recently held T20 World Cup on home soil, the Australian team failed to qualify for the semi-finals and exited in the league round. As a result, he came under heavy criticism.

Finch, who made his international debut for the Australian team in 2011, has so far scored 278 runs in 5 Tests, 5406 runs in 146 ODIs, and 3120 runs in 103 T20Is. He also scored 2091 runs in 92 IPL matches. Finch (172 runs) holds the world record for most runs in an innings in international T20 cricket.
