The Minister of Agriculture and Food Kiril Vatev discussed with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Austria to the Republic of Bulgaria Andrea Ikic-Böhm the possibilities for expanding trade in agricultural products between the two countries at a meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the ministry’s press center reported.

Minister Vatev presented the high quality and export potential of Bulgarian wines and food products. He commented on the possibilities for the exchange of knowledge and experience regarding veterinary medicine and organic farming. Minister Vatev also pointed to the contribution of the Austrian Chamber of Commerce to the development of bilateral relations and gave specific examples of successful Austrian companies from the food industry that share their achievements and experience.

For his part, Ambassador Andrea Ikic-Böhm commented on the trade between the two countries and stated that the exchange of pedigree animals and genetic material is of particular importance for Austria in the field of agriculture. She outlined Austria’s priorities as rotating chair of the EU Strategy for the Danube Region and explained that a program of events was being prepared to be held in the Danube cities. Ambassador Andrea Ikic-Böhm called on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to support future initiatives under the Strategy.
