Baden near Vienna (OTS) –

The Menschheitsfamilie.at announces that an international jury of media representatives and lawyers has nominated the Austrian Federal President Alexander Van der Bellen for the First International Media Prize for Democracy and Freedom of Expression. This award will be presented annually starting in 2025 to individuals who have made significant contributions to democracy and freedom of expression.

“Those who attack press freedom endanger a core essence of our democracy,” said Van der Bellen aptly on the International Day of Press Freedom on May 3. This attitude and his unwavering commitment to freedom of expression and the press were decisive factors in his nomination.

The official award ceremony will take place on February 16, 2025, at the Austria Center Vienna, just before the “World Peace” event featuring well-known historian and peace researcher Daniele Ganser. The Federal President is expected as the guest of honor.

“It is a great honor for us to recognize Mr. Van der Bellen and to acknowledge his contributions to democracy and freedom of expression,” says Johann Peter Schutte, MBA, initiator and representative of Menschheitsfamilie.at. “His clear and unequivocal stance in times of diverse attacks on state constitutions and media is exemplary,” Schutte further stated.

The Menschheitsfamilie.at is an organization dedicated to global human rights, democracy, and peace. Founded in 2022, it regularly organizes events and awards to honor outstanding individuals and initiatives. Its headquarters are located in Schörfling am Attersee, Austria.
