Author Apologizes After Viral Photo Sparks Sexist Remarks About Woman Reading His Book

“I don’t know where to hide and how to apologize”

A woman on a beach is reading the latest book by Kortos “Sex and How to Avoid It” and the photo is going viral online with comments that often get out of hand on the World Wide Web.

Augustos Kortos sees it and feels so terrible about everything that has been written in the comments that he can’t stand it and explodes, personally asking forgiveness from this woman who unintentionally found herself in the eye of the storm of notorious misogyny with a post on his Facebook page.

“A sincere, heartfelt apology.

In recent days, a photo has gone viral, being shared freely across various Facebook pages, where mockery reigns, often accompanied by crudeness and raw cannibalism. In the photo – which I don’t even know if it was taken with the subject’s knowledge – a woman is reading my latest book.

Her face is not visible, only her body on a beach lounge chair. It is a great joy to see that someone is reading you by the sea, that your stories compete, even for a languid half-hour, with the charms of summer, but in this case, the joy quickly gave way to anger and shame.

Because, prompted by the title of my book, a multitude of sexist and misogynistic comments flood beneath the photo, as jokes or clever remarks – as if – and each time someone sends me another repost of the photo, I don’t know where to hide, and how to apologize to the woman who honored me with her reading dedication and became prey to pettiness and emotional ugliness.

Whoever she is, I apologize with all my heart if my book has caused her any sorrow, even for a moment. It is not difficult to be human: we just need to think of ourselves in the place of another, and imagine how their heart can be hurt just like ours.”
