Two Men Questioned Over Grounded Flight Suspected of Human Trafficking

French authorities have detained two men for questioning after a flight destined for Nicaragua carrying over 300 Indian passengers was grounded in eastern France due to suspected human trafficking.

The Paris prosecutor’s office released a statement indicating that an anonymous tip-off prompted the suspicion that the flight, which had originated from the United Arab Emirates, may have been transporting potential victims of human trafficking.

The A340 aircraft, operated by Romanian charter company Legend Airlines, was stopped for refueling at the Vatry airport in eastern France when it was grounded on Thursday.

The prosecutor’s office informed that identity checks are being conducted on all 303 passengers and cabin crew members. Officials are also examining the circumstances under which the passengers were being transported as well as the purpose of their travel.

Following the grounding of the flight, the passengers were initially kept on board the aircraft but were later moved to the terminal building where they were provided with individual beds. Local authorities stated that the passengers are expected to remain at the airport overnight.

In response to the situation, the Indian embassy in France released a statement on social media platform X, confirming that they have been informed by Paris authorities and have sent an embassy team to provide consular support and ensure the well-being of the passengers.

As the investigation continues, the embassy has assured that they are looking into the situation and are taking measures to ensure the passengers’ welfare.

The incident raises concerns about potential human trafficking and highlights the importance of vigilant authorities in safeguarding against such criminal activities.
