The search for the fisherman who disappeared at sea on Saturday in Aljezur, in the Faro district, was resumed last Sunday morning, after being interrupted in the evening, the captain of the port of Lagos told Lusa.
“The searches resumed at 7:30 am, by sea, land and air,” Commander Hugo Bravo da Guia, captain of the port of Lagos, who is coordinating search operations at the site, told Lusa.
The Portuguese Navy official pointed out that “an air vehicle from the Ovar Air Force will take off from Ovar at 09:00 and will be part of the search plan” for the missing man, who allegedly fell into the sea while practicing fishing recreation north of Bordeira. beach , in the municipality of Aljezur, Faro district.
Also participating in the search are four military personnel from the Maritime Authority, four agents from the Maritime Police, on land, supported by five vehicles, two staff members from the Sagres Rescue Guard Station and an auxiliary vessel from the Portuguese Navy, and four elements from the Aljezur Volunteer Firefighters, with two all-terrain vehicles and a drone, said the Lagos port captain. .
Hugo Bravo from Guia also said that the search area will be “adjusted, given the time that has passed” since the warning about the fisherman falling into the sea, Saturday, at 2:40pm.
“Friends of the victim who are on the scene will be integrated into the search on land”, said the captain of the port.
The search was interrupted on Saturday afternoon, without success, after a 25-year-old fisherman who was practicing recreational fishing in the north of the beach fell from a cliff into the water.
The alert was received by the Lisbon Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center (MRCC Lisbon), at 2:40 pm.
“The Psychological Office of the Maritime Police has been activated and is providing support to the victim’s family,” the National Maritime Authority emphasized on Saturday.
