San Francisco.

A US authority accuses Tesla in a lawsuit of allowing racist insults against black workers. The electric car manufacturer also took action against some affected employees who resisted it, according to the lawsuit published on Thursday. There was initially no reaction from Tesla to the allegations.

According to the EEOC’s lawsuit, racist insults were openly spoken in the production halls of Tesla’s main factory in Fremont, California. Superiors did not intervene, even though they noticed this. Scribbles with racist slogans and swastikas were also found in elevators and toilets, among other things. The EEOC (Equal Employment Opportunity Commission) is responsible for enforcing laws against employment discrimination.

A Californian authority had already taken action against Tesla with similar allegations. In a trial, a jury ordered Tesla to pay a black ex-employee more than $3 million in restitution for racist insults he was subjected to in 2015. (dpa)
