At a meeting with President Vladimir Putin at SPIEF 2022 in June, the heads of Russian automakers asked to extend their existing special investment contracts (SPICs) for a period of two to five years. This was told to Vedomosti by three sources familiar with the results of the meeting, and confirmed by a source close to the Ministry of Industry and Trade. “There was talk about it. Due to well-known events, there was a violation of the current investment process. In this situation, automakers need a safety net, ”explained one of the interlocutors of Vedomosti.

The meeting was traditionally attended only by the heads of Russian automakers – AvtoVAZ, GAZ Group, Sollers Auto and Kamaz. Foreign automakers were represented by the governors of the regions where the main automotive clusters are located – Tula, Kaluga, Samara, Kaliningrad and Nizhny Novgorod regions, as well as Tatarstan.
