E-commerce is a new sector in Bangladesh. Although the success and necessity can be realized in a short time, the entrepreneurs face several obstacles in running the business in this sector. The businessmen of this sector believe that the development of the automation and logistics sector of related departments including customs, NBR is essential for the sustainable development of e-commerce.

Entrepreneurs shed light on this issue at the first meeting of the FBCCI Standing Committee on Global E-Commerce on Monday (February 19). FBCCI President Mahbubul Alam was present as the chief guest in the meeting. Standing Committee Chairman Muhammad Abdul Waheed Tamal presided.

FBCCI President Mahbubul Alam said there are many challenges in the e-commerce sector. However, it is almost impossible for us to move out of this sector. However, if there are proper policies including automation of customs, NBR, VAT-tax etc., the e-commerce sector in Bangladesh will go a long way. FBCCI is working earnestly for the development of e-commerce.

Senior Vice President of FBCCI. Amin Helali said, FBCCI will work to get policy support for the development of e-commerce sector. However, everyone should be careful not to misuse technology to harm the business.

Shami Kaiser, Vice President of FBCCI and President of E-Commerce Association of Bangladesh (E-CAB) said in the meeting, we are stuck with some problems in online cross-border business. Although the problems have been identified, their solution is not yet fully possible.

Syed Sadat Almas Kabir, panel advisor of FBCCI and former president of Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS), said that the easier digital or online payments are, the more the development of the e-commerce sector will be. In formulating the right guidelines for this sector, the relevant stakeholders including the logistics or courier service association should be discussed.

Director of FBCCI BM Shoaib urged to work towards the promotion of not only foreign products but also the sale of domestic products and its branding through e-commerce business.

Taking part in the open discussion, the speakers presented various proposals for the development of e-commerce in Bangladesh, including market research, preparation of international hubs for logistics facilities.
