It’s just a tiny piece of electronic circuitry, but it dominates the world’s industry today. To the point that France and Europe are making it an issue of national and continental sovereignty. The proof, Emmanuel Macron went this Tuesday to Crolles, in Isère, on the site of the Franco-Italian ST Microelectronics, to announce a mega investment of 5.7 billion euros within the framework of a partnership with the American GlobalFoundries. Enough to create a thousand additional jobs, on a site which already has 4,200 today. And enough to double the production of chips on the Isère site by 2026.
