The inauguration ceremony of this installation, chaired by the Minister of Industry and Commerce, Ryad Mezzour, took place in the presence of the Consul General of Spain in Tangier and representatives of public administrations and the management of Tangier Med.
This new 24,000 m2 infrastructure, located in Tangier Automotive City (TAC), is dedicated to the manufacture of polypropylene (PP) compounds, a technical material widely used in the automotive industry, as well as polyamide, PBT and alloy.
This expansion will allow the company to meet the growing demand from local customers, in particular from automobile manufacturers, such as the Renault group and the Stellantis group, who have supported the project since its inception.
The investment by Repsol and Ravago of 20 million euros represents a strategic initiative aimed at supporting the global expansion of both companies, by offering high value-added products for the automotive industry.
This project aims to establish a global production capacity of 18,500 tonnes, mainly oriented towards export to European markets.
Speaking on this occasion, Mr. Mezzour stressed that the installation of this factory in Tangier constitutes a new link in the development of the national industrial ecosystem, which is experiencing great growth and has gained considerably in competitiveness and attractiveness, thanks to the High Royal Solicitude, making it known that this industrial unit specializes in the manufacture of polypropylene compounds, a material widely used in the automotive industry.
In a statement to the press, the minister noted that the factory will meet around 30% of the needs of the automotive sector nationally, stressing that this production unit is the fruit of a fruitful partnership between two major players in the areas of energy transition and plastic recycling at the global level, namely Repsol and Ravago.
Mr. Mezzour affirmed that the Tangier factory will contribute to promoting the competitiveness of the automotive industry ecosystem in Morocco and to strengthening the transition towards a sustainable industry, in accordance with the High Royal Guidelines.
“Our collaboration with Ravago in the region strengthens our integration within the value chain of the local automotive sector and its ecosystem of transformers in Morocco,” indicated, for his part, the director of polyolefins at Repsol, Antonio Portela, adding : “we are maintaining our investments in our automotive materials and increasing our production capacity, in order to guarantee optimal manufacturing service for the parts necessary for the models assembled in the factories of Tangier, Kenitra and Casablanca”.
“We are convinced that this partnership will promote our regional expansion and allow us to provide our customers with high quality materials meeting their automotive needs,” he continued.
For his part, the general director of Tanger Med Zones (TMZ), Ahmed Bennis, affirmed that the implementation of the Ravago-Repsol project within the Tanger Med industrial platform attests to the commitment to industrial integration. automobile industry, adding: “this initiative reflects our determination to actively contribute to improving the competitiveness of our industrial ecosystem.”
“This is a key milestone in Ravago’s growth strategy in the field of plastic components, as we continue to support our customers with solutions to meet ever-increasing demand,” noted, for his part, the business director at Ravago Manufacturing Europe, Manuel Gayo.
Ravago will benefit from the proximity of the main automotive equipment manufacturers installed within the Tanger Med industrial platform and will benefit from established logistics corridors offering direct access to global markets.
By setting up this new facility, Ravago will join a successful ecosystem as a competitive player in the automotive value chain.
