In a press statement following a high-level inter-ministerial meeting to monitor and follow up on market supplies and prices, the minister reported stocks of 30 days for the majority of energy products and exceeding 60 days for some of these products.
Furthermore, the meeting was also an opportunity to focus on the fluctuations experienced by the Moroccan market, particularly for food products, she said, adding that some of these fluctuations are structural and dependent on the situation of world markets, while others are cyclical, which requires closer monitoring of the markets.
In the same vein, Ms. Benali indicated that the relevant ministries have mobilized with the regional commissions to control certain behaviors and monopolies which cause the fluctuation of prices of essential products, particularly for vegetables, fruits and meat.
The Head of Government, Aziz Akhannouch, had called on Thursday, during the government council, to increase the control of the state of supply of the markets of the Kingdom in foodstuffs, to strengthen the monitoring in terms of distribution and quality and to track down and sanction the perpetrators of any infraction or opportunistic behavior.
The production campaign of vegetables and tomatoes this year has reached a good level, he assured, attributing the recent increase in tomato prices to the cold wave currently experienced by the Kingdom, adding that “tomato prices will record, during the coming weeks, a decrease with the return of milder temperatures, which will contribute to the maturity of national crops and their availability on the markets.”
The government has taken all measures to reduce prices, thus maintaining the purchasing power of citizens, ensuring the normal supply of food products and carrying out checks on all points of sale, had also announced the Minister Delegate in charge of Relations with Parliament, government spokesperson, Mustapha Baïtas.
