AVB Community Band to Present “Mystery and Wonder” in October Concert

A captivating evening of music awaits audiences on Monday, October 20, as the AVB Community Band launches the second concert of its 44th season. The performance, titled “Mystery and wonder,” will begin at 7 p.m. at the Ashwaubenon Performing arts Center (PAC), located at 2391 S. Ridge Road in Ashwaubenon, Wisconsin. Doors will open at 6 p.m., and admission is free, with donations gratefully accepted.
A Season of Inspiration and Unity
The 2025-2026 concert season’s overarching theme, “Come Together: Music That Inspires and Unites,” sets the stage for an evening designed to evoke both curiosity and imagination. According to the band’s director, the selections are “enchanting and intriguing,” inviting listeners to embrace the spirit of the season.
Rändi Fay Headlines the Performance
Adding to the evening’s allure is acclaimed Wisconsin vocalist, recording artist, and songwriter Rändi Fay. Recognized in March 2022 by the Wisconsin Area Music Industry as one of the “female musicians who paved the way in Wisconsin,” Fay brings a wealth of experience and a celebrated voice to the stage.Her extensive collaborations include work with producers and songwriters such as Hans Christian, Woody Mankowski, Shane Adams, and Dmitry Zaystev. Fay recently released her seventh CD, Morning Snow.
A Diverse Musical Program
The concert program promises a diverse and engaging experience. The evening will open with Rossano Galante’s “Mt.Everest,” a piece intended to capture the majesty and challenge of the world’s highest peak. A touch of Halloween spirit will be present with selections like “Haunted Carousel” and familiar themes from “Music for a darkened Theater.”
Fay will perform the Rodgers and Hart classic, “Blue Moon,” alongside the band, and later return for a rendition of “My Funny Valentine” and “Come Fly With Me.” Other pieces on the program include Chris Bernotas’ “Vertigo,” selections from Andrew Lloyd Weber’s Cats, and the powerful “Mars (From The Planets)” by Gustav Holst, culminating in “Selections from aladdin.”
Remembering a Dedicated Musician
The AVB Community Band will also take a moment during the concert to remember Doug Youra,a longtime tuba player who passed away on August 28. His dedication and contributions to the band will be honored.
Community-Driven Performance
The AVB Community Band itself is a testament to the power of volunteerism, comprised of 75 musicians, including its directors, who dedicate their time and talent to bringing music to the community. Paul Oleksy serves as the associate director, and Bruce Deadman will narrate the concert.
