The router manufacturer AVM has surprisingly released new updates for three Fritzbox models. These bring important improvements and bug fixes.

AVM has given three older Fritzboxes an unexpected update. Users of the 4020, 7581 and 7582 models can download and install it immediately. The updates do not add any new functions. The updates are primarily aimed at fixing existing problems and increasing general security.

The update is particularly surprising for the almost ten-year-old Fritzbox 4020, whose support had actually already expired. The previous version of the operating system FritzOS 7.01 dates back to December 2018.

The new version 7.04 is supposed to solve a problem in interaction with the new WLAN standard Wi-Fi 7 will fix this problem. In addition, according to manufacturer AVM, the mesh functionality will be improved. This makes it possible to connect multiple devices in a network so that they work together seamlessly and form a large, stable network with better coverage and performance.

AVM has not yet published any release notes with the specific changes for the 7581 and 7582 models. However, the company did provide a few details on the X platform. According to this, the two boxes will receive the update to FritzOS 7.18, which also optimizes support for Wi-Fi 7.

Owners of a non-provider-bound Fritzbox can now install the new updates using the online update function on their devices. Those who own a provider-bound version may have to wait for approval.

Alternatively, the download packages are also available on the AVM website. It is recommended that you install the updates promptly, as they may contain security-relevant changes.
