Without the participating teams in the Super Cup, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Real Betis and Valencia, the King’s Cup round of 32 took place today, with Atlético Madrid avoiding an embarrassment in a 3:1 upset over Aranteiro from the third division.
Aranteiro – Atletico Madrid 3:1
Diego Simeone’s side almost became the surprise of the evening, but in the end managed to secure a place in the next stage thanks to a good second half. Marikatos surprised with 0:1 to the team from the third division in the 42nd minute, but Yannick Carrasco equalized with a penalty right before the break (45+1). Albero Morata almost equalized early in the second half but missed a penalty, and 19-year-old Pablo Barrios eventually did in the 76th minute with a superb long-range strike. Morata made up for the missed penalty a minute into added time, when he set up Carrasco for his second.
Casernio – Girona 1:2
The small team from the fourth division signed the big surprise, after in its 104 years of existence, a team from the senior league won. David Granada put Caserinho in the lead after 17 minutes, and despite an equalizer by Valentin Castajanos (30), Ivan Fernandez sealed the sensation in the 61st minute.
Guernica – Salta Vigo 3:0
Unlike the other teams from the top league, Carlos Carvaliel’s players did not have a hard time against the opponent from the fourth division and defeated it at home. Carlos Perez scored the first in the 31st minute, Joseph Ido doubled the second start (55) and Luca de la Torre scored the third (68) en route to an easy victory.
