AvtoVAZ may resume production of vehicles with ABS from 2023

by time news

The Russian concern AvtoVAZ plans to resume the production of cars with anti-lock braking system (ABS) from 2023, the head of the company Maxim Sokolov said on the air of the Rossiya 24 TV channel.

“The next step for us is the return of such an option as anti-lock brakes. We plan to enter the production of cars equipped with ABS next year, ”he said (quoted by TASS).

According to him, the next option to be returned to the car will be the ESP lateral stability system, which stabilizes the vehicle during sharp turns and slopes and prevents it from skidding.

This week, AvtoVAZ also resumed the production and sale of Lada Granta and Lada Niva Legend cars in 2022 trim levels, which are equipped with the Era-Glonass emergency warning system. This feature has not been available to new vehicles since last September due to a shortage of semiconductors.

Now the automaker produces only two models – Lada Granta and Lada Niva Legend in “simplified” versions, without airbags and ABS. Since the beginning of August, the Granta family has been equipped with air conditioning, parking sensors and heated windshields. It is assumed that airbags will also return to cars by the end of summer.

According to the Association of European Businesses, AvtoVAZ sold only 10,323 Lada cars in July, which is 68% less than in July 2021, and 85,037 since the beginning of the year, or 63% less year-on-year. Despite this, the company ranks first in sales of passenger cars in Russia against the backdrop of a general decline in demand.
