AvtoVAZ plans to resume assembly of Lada Granta cars on June 8, TASS reports with reference to the company’s press service.

“AvtoVAZ is starting preparations for the resumption of car production on the Granta line. Today, June 3, welding of bodies started, on June 7 the painting line will be filled. The release of the first commercial vehicles is scheduled for Wednesday, June 8, which will be announced later.

The press service also stated that the work of other divisions has already been resumed, including stamping production, production of engines, chassis, which ensure the production of this model.

Vedomosti previously wrote that the first AvtoVAZ model to be released after the downtime will be the Lada Granta in a simplified version. Their arrival in salons is expected in the second half of June. According to the chairman of the board of directors of BN-Motors, Alexei Podshchekoldin, there is no exact information about the configurations yet. Most likely, these cars will be offered without ABS (anti-lock braking system), ERA-GLONASS panic button, airbags and power windows, he believes.

The new CEO of the company, Maxim Sokolov, at a meeting with the plant’s staff, said earlier that the production of cars would resume “literally at the beginning of next month.” According to Sokolov, AvtoVAZ should gradually restore production in full. In 2021, according to the Association of European Businesses, the company sold 350,714 (+2% by 2020) vehicles in Russia. Another 35,800 vehicles (+9%) were exported.
