Autoconcern «AvtoVAZwill start production at the former Nissan plant in St. Petersburg on June 14. This is stated in the presentation, which the CEO of the company Maxim Sokolov presented at the conference “Digital Industry of Industrial Russia”.

“June 14, 2023 – the start of production at the Lada St. Petersburg plant. With the participation of a partner, the production of a new Lada model in St. Petersburg will be launched,” the statement said (cit. according to TASS).

On October 11, 2022, the Ministry of Industry and Trade announced the transfer of 100% of Nissan’s assets in Russia “Nissan Manufacturing Rus”, including a plant in St. Petersburg, subordinated to the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Scientific Research Automobile and Automotive Institute (NAMI). It was clarified that AvtoVAZ would deal with the after-sales service of cars and the supply of spare parts. At the end of November, the plant became the property of NAMI.

Later, on February 7, AvtoVAZ closed the deal to buy the plant. Sokolov then confirmed plans to launch the production of Lada cars at this plant. According to him, the assembly will begin in the second half of this year. The production volume in 2023 will be up to 10,000 vehicles, in the future it can be increased. By 2024-2027 it is planned to localize the production of cars.

In mid-March, Sokolov reported that AvtoVAZ had proposed renaming the former Nissan plant to Lada St. Petersburg. Later, at the end of April, the press service of the Legislative Assembly of St. Petersburg reported that the plant would soon will replace Name.
