The world famous Madurai Meenakshi Amman Temple Chithrai Festival started with the flag hoisting on the 5th. Devotees have been given permission for major events after the last 2 years. Devotees are allowed to attend events including the Meenakshi Amman Tirukkalyanam in Madurai, Therottam and the descent into the Kallazhagar river.
Due to this, the Meenakshi wedding was held yesterday with much fanfare around the devotees. The Meenakshi Amman Temple procession was held today, the 11th day of the Chithrai Festival. At around 5 in the morning, Sundaresapperuman got up in a big chariot and Meenakshi got up in a small chariot.
Departing from Keelamasi Road, the chariot came to a halt on South Kumasi Road, Melamasi Road and North Kumasi Road. Tens of thousands of devotees attended and pulled the toad by the ropes. In connection with the Chithirai festival, the event to descend into the river Vaigai is scheduled to take place tomorrow. Tens of thousands of people will attend the main event, the Kallazhagar River Descent. The thief wakes up in a golden horse carriage on the Vaigai River between 5.50 am and 06.20 am tomorrow.
Earlier, Alhagar left Sundararaja Perumal headquarters at 6.30 pm yesterday and reached Madurai this morning. The main event of the Madurai Meenakshi Amman Temple Chithrai Festival, the Kallazhagar River Descent Ceremony will be held tomorrow morning. In turn, large numbers of people descend into the river. The District Collector said that the public is not allowed to enter the Vaigai River due to the high water level in the river. The district collector has also requested the devotees to stand on the banks of the river and perform darshan.
