Another proof that the Artemiseña writer Olga Montes Barrios has become one of the most solid contemporary Cuban narrators has recently been given after obtaining the Ciudad de Matanzas Prize for her novel Mujeres de café.

The evaluating jury, made up of writers Dazra Novak, Arturo Arango and Yuniel Riquenes, awarded the prize to a work where the rural coffee-growing woman is the protagonist and will arrive in its audiovisual variant to the Cuban Telenovela space on the Cubavisión channel, directed by Ernesto Fiallo.

Previously, Olga had deserved this same award thanks to her novel for children and young people Danza de kites and she already has a long list of literary awards on her resume.

Among them, the Abril Prize for children’s literature stands out for the work Chimbe; the Foundation of the City of Santa Clara, in the same genre, for the narrative piece The Enchanted Cell Phone and the Regino Boti of narrative for the novel Gorilas de Angumu.

Olga Montes has confessed that she writes every day in the morning and that for her writing has become a vice, a necessity of life that can take her by storm even when she decides to rest on Sundays.

Her extensive narrative work includes titles such as Of Life and Death, Why Don’t Extraterrestrials Visit Us, Naked in Front of the Mirror and The Witch Maluja, among others.

This Artemisian author burst into the audiovisual world, for which she wrote such well-received teleplays as Luna mia and Por culpa de las gallinas, in addition to the fact that her story The Chocolate Boy also enjoyed a cartoon version and has yet to be finalized. other projects on screen such as a 15-episode animated series.
