The mayor of Zitsa, Michalis Pliakos, sent a congratulatory letter to the Aetopetra Brotherhood, on the occasion of the honorary distinction awarded to it by the Panepirotian Confederation of Greece.

The Brotherhood of Aetopetra was awarded for its active and multifarious activity from 1901 until today, during the event held by the Panepirotiki for the cutting of the Epirotian pie at the Stadium of Peace and Friendship.
“You make us proud, as you prove that you are worthy ambassadors of the rich tradition not only of your place of origin, Aetopetra, but also of the entire Municipality”, states the mayor of Zitsa in his letter and adds: “We all know your tireless effort you to serve the aims and objectives of the Brotherhood to preserve the rich cultural tradition and ties of the younger generation with their place of origin. I am sure that all of you will successfully continue the activities of the Brotherhood and in your endeavor, know that we will continue as the municipal authority of Zitsa to be by your side, supporters and helpers”.
Panepirotiki awarded the Aetopetra Brotherhood for its contribution to the strengthening and development of the relations of the expatriate Aetopetras, the recording, preservation and promotion of the tradition and in general every form of manifestation of our popular culture. Nikos Zekis, the president of the Aetopetra Brotherhood, received the honorary plaque from the President of the Panepirotian Confederation of Greece Chrysostomos (Maki) Kiamos – Chito.
“It is with special emotion that we make this award, because Aetopetra is a living cell of the diaspora and indeed one of the most ancient Brotherhoods in the Attica basin. Its activity is well known and indeed we consider it an honor and a pleasure that its president is also a member of the Board of Panipirotiki. We want this example of the old Fraternities and their action to be followed by the rest of the Fraternities. This is the only way we will be united and loved and this is how we will move forward as Epirus”, said the president of Panepirotiki among others, with the president of the Brotherhood stressing: “For some situations, three things are needed: the place, the time and the conditions. For a small village with twenty inhabitants in the winter, such as Aetopetra, this time, place and conditions are here today, in the biggest celebration of the emigrant Epirotians of the Pan-Epiritonian Confederation of Greece. Thank you for honoring us. The award is dedicated to all Aetopetrites, who selflessly and tirelessly gave everything for the Brotherhood and it returned their happiness. Aetopetra is our life, it is our source, it is the eternal way. We will preserve it, as our ancestors did for 123 years.”
