The project includes the construction of a four kilometer tunnel and three new stations and the reform of two existing ones. The works have been awarded to the consortium formed by Ferrovial, Sacyr, Copisa and Copcisa. The works that will begin at the end of this summer consist of the extension of the FGC Llobregat-Anoia line from the current Plaza España station to connect it with the Valls line in the area of Gracia station and will have an execution period of five years.

For this junction, a new underground route will be drilled using a tunnel boring machine, with a single tunnel that will include both tracks, except for a small initial section that will be executed in a mine and that will consist of two single-span parallels. This extension, four kilometers long and ten meters in diameter, will have three new stations and three emergency exits.

Regarding the stations, three new ones will be built: Hospital Clnic, Francesc Maci and Gracia. Additionally, the ones in Plaza España, currently on the Llobregat-Anoia line, and the one in Gracia, on the FGC del Valls line, will be remodelled. The first of these is the start and end point of the Llobregat-Anoia line and forms part of one of the main transport interchanges, where various FGC lines and lines 1 and 3 of the Barcelona metro come together. The planned works include its reform, the extension of two of the four tracks, the extension of the lobby and the reconfiguration of the accesses and connections between levels.

Thus, a station will be added, Hospital Clínic, on Comte Urgell street, between Rossell and Crsega streets, to connect the FGC line with Line 5 of the metro. Another of the planned stops is that of Francesc Maci. In this case, it will be located between the streets of Buenos Aires and Plaza Francesc Maci and will have a lobby and two entrances from the street. These facilities will facilitate interchange with the tram and various bus lines, both urban and interurban.

In addition to the infrastructure work that has been awarded, the Territory Department of the Generalitat de Catalunya is working on installation, track, catenary and station architecture projects. Prior to the start of the tunnel drilling work, inspections of more than 13,500 homes, premises and garages will be carried out.

ms coverage

The connection of FGC’s Valls and Baix Llobregat-Anoia lines will improve service, save an average of 4.5 minutes in journey time and avoid transfers. Likewise, it will open up new possibilities for intermodality, since the new stations will facilitate interchange with line 5 of the Barcelona metro, the tram and other FGC networks.

Another of the objectives of the project is to improve and expand public transport coverage in a densely populated area of Barcelona that has various relevant facilities such as the Hospital Clnic or the Industrial School. Upon completion of the project, it is expected to benefit 19.5 million users per year.

Previous jobs
