Awards are given at the National Radio Festival

The XXXIV National Festival of Cuban Radio, which took place in Holguín since last November 13, ended this Friday the 17th with the presentation of the grand prizes by category. More than 600 works by creators from all over the country competed in the event held at the Pernik Hotel in the city of parks.

During the ceremony, Yusaima Cardona Villena, General Director of the Cuban Radio, led the presentation of the awards, which included the recognition of Natalia Riverón Díaz, Provincial Director of the Radio in Holguín, with the Radio Microphone for excellence in development of the festival.

The jury in the Special Themes category awarded its Grand Prize to the radio documentary “Sinisters en el supertanquero de Matanzas” by Yunielis Moliner Isasi, from Radio 26 (province of Matanzas), while the Grand Prize in the Staged Programs category went to the series “ Ashes of waiting”, by Yumaris Cruz Carballo, from Radio Progreso.

Meanwhile, filmmakers from the Artemis province were awarded the Grand Prix in categories such as Journalistic Genres (documentary “Angerona, the story of a paradise in ruins”, by journalist Laura María Ortega Pérez, of Radio Artemisa); Propaganda (“Children and Technology” by Evelyn González Estrada, Radio Ariguanabo); Musical programs (“Here is my music”, directed by Yusiván López Suárez, of Radio Artemisa); and Varied Programs (“Goblins of the Home,” by Yusiván López Suárez, also from Radio Artemisa).

Likewise, the Information Programs section awarded the Grand Prize to the citizen participation program “High Demand, the impact of new technologies and young people. Connected or disconnected?”, by multi-award-winning journalist Abel Falcón Curí, from the CMHW station, from the province of Villa Clara; while the Radio Rebelde station was awarded in the category of Productions for the Internet.

Other winners

The Festival’s program of activities presented, on the previous day, the individual awards in the eight categories called, which granted 36 recognitions and another 19 collateral awards by different international and local institutions.

The young journalist Lisandra Gómez Guerra, from the Sancti Spiritus province, received several institutional awards given by the Union of Historians of Cuba and the Federation of Cuban Women.

Among those distinguished in the different sections in the competition are: CMKX Radio Bayamo, from the province of Granma (Best Website), Radio 26, from Matanzas (Informative magazine, “De Primera Mano”), Radio Nuevitas, from Camagüey (Noticiero Circuito RN), Radio Artemisa (Documentary “Angerona, the story of a paradise in ruins”), Radio Ciudad del Mar, from the province of Cienfuegos (Report, “Theft and regrettable sacrifice, experience and longed-for answers”), station CMHW, from Villa Clara (Time.news, “Free with his pigeons”), CMKC, from Santiago de Cuba (propaganda genre, “Tribute to Juan Almeida”), Radio Ariguanabo “Children and technology”).

For its part, in staged programs, recognition was received by “La palma Quiero ser Reina”, from Radio Artemisa, and “Ashes of Waiting”, from Radio Progreso.

The National Radio Festival was a necessary meeting between radio broadcasters from all over the country for the exchange of experiences. Their work days were attended by 10 National Radio winners and several doctors in communication, who presented important research.

Natalia Riverón Díaz, Provincial Director of Radio in Holguín, thanked the fact that the province was selected as the venue for the XXXIV edition of this important meeting, after 13 years without being able to take place. At the same time, she called to continue creating better radio every day.

The final day was attended by Guillermo Pavón Pacheco, vice president of the Institute of Information and Social Communication, and Waldo de la Ribera, also a member of that institution; as well as political and governmental authorities of the region.

At the close of the activities it was announced that Artemisa was chosen to organize the next edition of the National Festival as it is, according to Yusaima Cardona Villena, General Director of the Radio, “a young province, but consolidated in its radio production, demonstrated in the results obtained in this event”.
