Awareness about gender violence is raised with a mural in Coyoacán; it includes women victims of acid attacks

As a symbolic act, in the Coyoacan City Hall The mural “For Human Rights, Inclusion and Substantive Equality” was reinaugurated, with the faces of Carmen Sanchez, Maria Lopez, Yazmin Hernandez Soria y Ana Saldanawomen victims of acid attacks.

The mural, made in December of last year by the plastic artist Karen Arias Atilanorecognizes the resilience of women victims of acid attacks, in addition to being a call to social action to eradicate all types of gender violence, said the mayor of Coyoacán.

Mayor Giovani Gutierrez unveiled the work, which she highlighted: “This work has been inspired by the courageous testimony of women who were victims of an acid attack, and stands as a tribute to their resilience and a call to action.”

For its part, Desiree Navarro Lopezmanaging director of Gender Equality and Non-Discriminationrecognized the work of activists Carmen Sánchez and María López, who have promoted the “Acid Law”, which seeks to recognise acid attacks as a type of violence involving “chemical substances”, as well as classifying them as attempted femicide.

The mural “For Human Rights, Inclusion and Substantive Equality”, can be appreciated in the Fray Martin Square in Valencia (Aurora Park), in the Santa Catarina neighborhood.
