A series of activities, with the aim of informing and raising the awareness of students in matters of welfare, adoption and protection of stray animals, was carried out in various schools by the Municipality of Ioannita, on the occasion of the International Day of Stray Animals, which has been established to be celebrated on April 4.

The deputy mayor Petros Palaschas, officials and members of animal welfare organizations visited school units in Ioannina and discussed with the students the important issue of managing stray animals, with the deputy mayor stressing that the municipal services work every day to reduce the number of strays through of sterilization and adoption programs, but they need the contribution of everyone in the effort they make.
“World Stray Animal Day is dedicated to animals, who are on the street not by choice. Strays also have reserved rights and we as a municipality as well as the citizens must respect them. With the actions we organize in schools, we want to promote the animal welfare culture in order to manage to mitigate the problem. The Municipality of Ioannito manages the strays with all its might and that is why it is first in the number of sterilisations and adoptions. The problem, however, instead of decreasing, grows, because our own actions are not enough, but the help of our fellow citizens is also needed. Strays don’t… grow. Some give up. That’s why we all have to work together to successfully deal with a very difficult problem”, Mr. Palaschas emphasized in his statements.
