Ayyappa pilgrims’ vehicle overturns in Theni accident: 8 killed | Theni accident: 8 dead; 2 critically injured

Honey: Eight people were killed when a vehicle carrying Ayyappa devotees overturned in a 50 feet ditch near Andipatti in Theni district.

10 Ayyappa devotees from Theni Shanmugasundarapuram village went to Sabarimala by car and returned home at night. When the car came near Raichal Bridge on Kumuli Hill Road, the driver lost control and overturned into a 50-feet ravine.

The Tamilnadu-Kerala state police came to know the information and rescued the car from the ditch with the help of firemen. The car was stuck between the giant pipes leading to the Mulla Periyar water, so the firemen rescued the car amid much struggle. But 7 people died tragically on the spot.

Three people, including a 9-year-old boy, were rescued from the spot with serious injuries and taken to the nearby government hospital where they were given first aid. Another person died without treatment. This took the death toll to 8. Two people who were seriously injured in the accident were sent to Theni Government Medical College Hospital for further treatment. Police are investigating the incident.
