Lakhs of devotees had darshan of Ayyappan, who appeared as a torch at Sabarimala Ponnambalamed, raising chants.

More than three and a half lakh devotees gathered at the Sabarimala Ayyappan temple today for Makar Jyoti darshan. Earlier today, in conjunction with Makara Lampu Pooja, the walk was opened at 3 am and devotees were allowed for darshan from 3.30 am.

Mr Aparana Petti, which left Bombay at 3 o’clock, reached the historic Sarakothi at 5.30 o’clock. After this, around 6 pm, a special puja was performed after which Ayyappan was decorated with tiruvaparanas and war tools. From there Mr. Aparana Petti was welcomed under the leadership of Temple Executive Officer Krishnakumar.

Following this, at 6.45 pm Sami Ayyappan Jyoti appeared at the Ponnambala hill opposite the temple shrine. It was chanted and lakhs of devotees visited it.

Even though Jyoti can be seen at 9 places including Bampai and Pulmedu, the crowd swells as most of the devotees want to see it from the Jayappan shrine itself. Earlier, actors Jairam, Jayamravi, Kalidas, director Vignesh Sivan and other screen celebrities also attended to see Makara Jyoti darshan.
