The president of the Aragonese Government, the popular Jorge Azcón, has defended this Friday the importance of Aragon in Spain and has warned, in his inauguration speech, against political projects that use the Community as a “target” to “try to crack the common project” of Spain agreed with the Constitution of 1978.
After his inauguration as president of Aragon in the Cortes thanks to the government agreement with Vox and the support of the only PAR deputy, Azcón was sworn in this Friday and insisted, in his speech, on the importance of Aragon and the Aragonese show themselves “firm” in defense of the Statute of Autonomy and the Constitution.
In front of some 300 guests and supported by his counterpart from the Valencian Community, Carlos Mazón, the PP’s deputy secretary for Social Policies and Demographic Challenge, Carmen Fúnez, or the president of the party in Catalonia, Alejandro Fernández, the event was attended by the former president of Aragón, the socialist Javier Lambán, the president of the Cortes, Marta Fernández, and the spokespersons of the parliamentary groups, except those of Podemos and IU, Andoni Corrales and Álvaro Sanz.
In his speech, in which he did not hide his emotion, Azcón stated that for the Aragonese, being “loyal to the nation” means “actively participating in its construction” from its “specific nature” and “preventing projects that intend to dismember or undo that nation”.
Azcón has emphasized the desire of the Aragonese to continue walking “a path of success” alongside the rest of the Spaniards without being left “behind” and “increasing the loyalty already demonstrated”. “Defending the Constitution and the Statute must be, on the contrary, a personal, sincere commitment”, he stressed, and accessing the Government, he has defended, must be “the verification and the ultimate reflection of the desire of the citizens” as the culmination of a project that some today “seek to corrupt”.
“The will of the citizens cannot be conditioned by minorities that seek to undo a coexistence that has led us to prosperity for the whole of Spaniards”, he asserted in reference to the general elections that the PP won and the pacts that may be reached the leader of the PSOE and acting president of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, with the pro-independence parties to repeat in office.
He has recognized that being president of Aragon “goes far beyond the ambitions” that he came to “dream” and that he assumes office with “the greatest of illusions”, the “strictest of commitments” and the “humility” of know that it will serve” the citizens until they decide
