In Azerbaijan, the elections were brought forward by two months so as not to interfere with Baku’s program of COP29, the important UN climate conference. This is a paradox for a country where most of the economy is focused on fossil fuels. This position allows, despite the conflict with Armenia, to maintain good relations with Western Europe and with its neighbor Russia.
