The 9th meeting of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission on Economic, Trade and Technical Cooperation between the Governments of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the United Arab Emirates was held in Shusha.

As reported by Day.Az on Thursday, citing the Ministry of Economy of Azerbaijan, a meeting was held in Shusha between the co-chairs of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission on Economic, Trade and Technical Cooperation between the governments of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the United Arab Emirates, Minister of Economy of Azerbaijan Mikayil Jabbarov and Minister of Economy of the UAE Abdullah bin Tugh Al-Marri.

“At the meeting, it was noted that relations between Azerbaijan and the UAE are based on the principles of mutual friendship and respect, and the important role of the political will of the heads of state of the two countries in developing cooperation was emphasized. It was noted that mutual visits and discussions play a special role in defining new directions of bilateral relations. It was brought to attention that the 9th meeting of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission of Azerbaijan-UAE, held today in Shusha, the activities of the Trade Mission of Azerbaijan in the UAE and the Trade House of Azerbaijan in Dubai serve the development of business ties.

The bilateral meeting noted the existing great potential for developing cooperation, stressed the importance of further increasing the volume of mutual trade turnover and diversifying its structure. Potential investment projects in the fields of “green energy” and tourism, as well as the progress of negotiations on signing the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement between Azerbaijan and the UAE were discussed.

Then the 9th meeting of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission on Economic, Trade and Technical Cooperation between the Governments of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the United Arab Emirates was held.

Speaking at the meeting, Azerbaijani Minister of Economy, co-chairman of the intergovernmental commission Mikayil Jabbarov noted the successful development of partnership between Azerbaijan and the UAE. The minister emphasized the growth of trade turnover between the countries and the positive results of joint initiatives.

The participants of the event were informed about the favorable business and investment environment created in our country, the activities of industrial zones and the Alat Free Economic Zone, and the “open door” policy implemented for foreign investors. Investors from the UAE were invited to take advantage of the investment support mechanisms applied and to participate in the implementation of joint projects.

UAE Minister of Economy, Co-Chairman of the Commission Abdullah bin Tug Al-Marri expressed satisfaction with the visit to Azerbaijan and the organization of the commission meeting in Shusha. The Minister emphasized that the country has achieved great development, focused on the significant energy, transport and logistics projects being implemented at the initiative of Azerbaijan. Confidence was expressed that the measures being implemented to strengthen multilateral cooperation between the two countries will contribute to the implementation of new joint projects and the development of trade and economic relations.

The parties also discussed issues of strengthening bilateral partnership, implementation of joint initiatives in green energy and other areas, and potential areas of cooperation within the framework of COP29.

Following the results of the 9th meeting of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission on Economic, Trade and Technical Cooperation between Azerbaijan and the UAE, a protocol was signed. The document was signed by the co-chairs of the intergovernmental commission – Azerbaijani Minister of Economy Mikayil Jabbarov and UAE Minister of Economy Abdullah bin Tugh Al Marri. The document envisages the expansion of cooperation in the areas of trade and investment, support for small and medium-sized businesses, innovation and digitalization, energy, including green energy, industry, agriculture, food security, environmental protection, land reclamation and water resources management, transport and logistics, communications and high technology, science and education, tourism, healthcare, culture, etc.,” the report says.
