Moscow: Russian President Putin is trying to mediate the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict.

The Nagorno-Karabakh mountain region with an area of 4400 square km is the border between the two countries on the Armenia-Azerbaijan border. There is a dispute over who owns this area. The controversy has been going on for more than 30 years.

30 thousand people were killed in the border war in 1988. Since 2016, the two countries have again been at loggerheads over the border issue. In 2020 it turned into a war. Russia then intervened and brokered peace. Up to 6000 people died in that war.

Meanwhile, Armenia says this week that Azerbaijani forces attacked and captured settlements inside Armenia. Due to this, the war tension has increased again. The fighting ended two days ago after more than 200 people were killed in the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict.

Armenia has asked the Russia-led Collective Security Treaty Organization to intervene in the matter, but so far the body has sent only a fact-finding team to the region. Armenia has expressed its displeasure.

It has also expressed displeasure with Russia. Russia is a military ally of Armenia and is working towards friendly relations with Azerbaijan. So Russian President Putin is trying to mediate the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict. Putin says Russia has enough resources to bring peace to the conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
