The Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the European Union (EU) and the World Bank (WB) discussed the operational structure, activities of the Energy Efficiency Fund within the framework of the Azerbaijan Rapid Technical Assistance Program (AZTAF), as well as the main results of the roadmap of the National Renovation Program for private and public buildings, Day.Az reported on Thursday.

According to the WB, this technical assistance project includes the launch of an Energy Efficiency Fund (EEF), strengthening EE policies and identifying investment opportunities in this area. In addition, the AZTAF program also supports the government in developing comprehensive measures that include upgrading private and public buildings to improve energy efficiency.

It is noted that the event was attended by the Ambassador of the European Union to Azerbaijan Peter Michalko, the Head of the Energy Efficiency Department of the Ministry of Energy of Azerbaijan Nargiz Bagirli, the Principal Operations Specialist of the World Bank Saida Bagirli and the Head of the Technical Assistance Component “Energy Efficiency and Climate” under the AZTAF program Yasemin Oruj.

The speakers emphasized that cooperation between these three institutions plays an important role in the full functioning of the Energy Efficiency Fund in Azerbaijan and the preparation of relevant policy and investment decisions.

It is noted that this event, which is the culmination of a series of workshops planned within the framework of the AZTAF Operational Technical Assistance Programme “Energy Efficiency and Climate”, was organized with the aim of presenting preliminary results of the project and collecting feedback from various stakeholders.

“Buildings are the main consumers of energy, and their renovation is one of the most effective ways to improve energy efficiency. The draft roadmap developed under the AZTAF Program reflects the overall plan for the renovation of both private and public buildings using the latest technologies and best practices. Considering the role of energy efficiency in the building sector not only in achieving the goals outlined in the National Priorities of Azerbaijan until 2030, but also in improving the urban environment and living conditions, the World Bank is conducting a market study entitled “PV Potential in Public Buildings” as part of the preparation of the roadmap for the National Renovation Program,” the bank said in a statement.

It should be noted that AZTAF is a three-year program with a total budget of €5.25 million, funded by the EU and implemented by the World Bank. The goal of the program is to provide advisory and analytical support to the government in line with the National Priorities of Azerbaijan until 2030 and the National Strategy for Socioeconomic Development for 2022-2026.
