Over the past two years, Azerbaijan has done tremendous work towards digitalization and diversification of the economic model.
StrategEast President Anatoly Motkin told Trend about this on Tuesday, Day.Az reports.
“Azerbaijan, in fact, has done a tremendous amount of work over the past two years in the direction of digitalization and generally diversifying the economic model from an exclusively resource-oriented to a knowledge economy. And the fact that a year ago President Ilham Aliyev signed a decree on the creation of a special tax regime creates the preconditions for in order for international technology companies to become interested in the country,” he said.
According to the president of StrategEast, the only difference is that Azerbaijan began this development when the western part of the world, which is the main customer, entered a recession stage, and therefore the technology companies themselves are fighting to ensure that their budgets there do not shrink.
“Azerbaijan has the opportunity to compensate for this by the fact that Azerbaijan itself can become a customer and is, in fact, a customer for many technology companies, because the telecom, oil and gas sector, and banking sector need digital solutions. And this has made it possible to create new jobs places through the hiring of local specialists by international companies attracted to the country,” he added.
