The Azerbaijani government invites Romanian investors to work in the Alyat Free Economic Zone (AFEZ), which will become the most profitable area for them to do business in Azerbaijan.

As Day.Az reported on Monday with reference to Trend, this was said today by the Chairman of the Board of AFEZ Valeh Aleskerov at the 8th meeting of the joint commission on trade and economic relations and scientific and technical cooperation between the governments of Azerbaijan and Romania in Baku.

As a new attractive aspect of AFEZ’s work, Aleskerov named the upcoming commissioning of cargo terminals at the airport on the territory of AFEZ from the first half of 2026.

At the initial stage, using these terminals it will be possible to transport 500 thousand tons of cargo from this free economic zone, and in the future this volume will be increased to approximately 1.5 million tons per year.

“We are ready to evaluate any proposal from Romania and will give preference to investors who will use innovative technologies and approaches, and will also be involved in production with high added value,” he added.

Let us recall that on May 22, 2020, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev signed a Decree on the creation and organization of activities of the Alyat free economic zone in the Garadagh district of Baku.

The SEZ began its activities in July 2022, in accordance with the law “On the Alyat Free Economic Zone”.

The creation of AFEZ is aimed at increasing the volume of local and foreign investment in the country’s non-oil sector. The legislation exempts foreign specialized personnel in SEZs from income tax, social insurance payments and other similar taxes and fees.

Companies in the SEZ are exempt from any customs duties and taxes, including VAT, on the export of any products and services abroad.
