Azerbaijan is already facing the consequences of climate change.

As Day.Az reported on Monday with reference to Trend, this was stated by the appointed president of COP29 Mukhtar Babayev in his speech during the first press conference of the COP29 chairmanship.

“The decrease in water content in rivers has had a serious impact on the decrease in water levels in the Caspian Sea. Discussion of such issues will create new opportunities. Discussion of the mentioned issues will be held within the framework of COP29,” he emphasized.

It should be noted that on April 15, the first press conference was held at the COP29 General Staff in connection with the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, which will be held in November 2024 in Azerbaijan. Speakers at the event included COP29 President-designate Mukhtar Babayev, COP29 Chief Negotiator Yalchin Rafiev, COP29 General Director Elnur Soltanov, Chairman of the Board of Directors and Chief Executive Officer of the COP29 Operating Company Narmin Dzharchalova, UN High-Level Climate Leader Nigar Arpadarai, COP29 Youth Climate Advocate in Azerbaijan Leyla Hasanova.
