All international projects implemented at the initiative of President Ilham Aliyev increase the reputation of our country and serve our national interests. Ensuring energy security is one of the issues that Azerbaijan considers a priority. In the direction of energy security, the opinions and proposals expressed at the 10th meeting of the ministers within the framework of the Southern Gas Corridor Consultative Council and the 2nd meeting of the ministers within the framework of the Green Energy Consultative Council are of great importance.

Day.Az reports that Sevil Mikayilova, a member of the Milli Majlis, said this in a statement to Trend.

The deputy noted that despite being a producer of traditional energy resources, Azerbaijan is also doing great things in the direction of “green energy” development:

“Today, Azerbaijan has sufficiently accelerated the process of transition to “green energy”. Azerbaijan is making its contributions in this direction as well. The trust of the international community in Azerbaijan is constantly increasing. The decision to hold COP29 in Azerbaijan confirms this. It is entrusted to Azerbaijan to hold such a prestigious event. on the one hand, it is the international trust in our country, and on the other hand, Baku has a strong “green” agenda.

President Ilham Aliyev, both in his speech at the meeting and in an interview with “Euronews” television, gave detailed information about the process of transition to “green energy”, which Azerbaijan mainly defines.

As President Ilham Aliyev emphasized, Azerbaijan is successfully implementing the “green energy” agenda. Declaring “Year of Solidarity for the Green World” in Azerbaijan this year is a continuation of the steps taken in this field. Azerbaijan’s renewable energy projects have high indicators. The capacity of the solar power plant in Azerbaijan is 230 megawatts. According to the signed agreements and memoranda of understanding, it is planned to produce up to 5 thousand megawatts, i.e. 5 gigawatts of solar and wind energy, by 2030. “Azerbaijan’s indicators allow our country to become one of the important exporters of “green energy” to Europe,” S. Mikayilova added.

The MP also noted that after the energy crisis faced by the European Union, there was a need to find alternative sources.

“The most profitable alternative for Europe is to increase the capacity of the Southern Gas Corridor, which delivers Caspian gas to European markets. The Southern Gas Corridor is a completely new route. Today, many routes – interconnectors have already been added to it. Azerbaijan supplies gas to 8 countries, six of which are European countries. The Southern Gas Corridor project is the foundation of the interconnector projects put into use in Europe,” S. Mikayilova added.

The deputy noted that one of the important events that took place last year was the commercial production of natural gas in the “Absheron” gas-condensate field located in the sector of the Caspian Sea belonging to Azerbaijan.

“This means the discovery of the second huge gas reserves after Shah Deniz. The Absheron gas-condensate field will form the resource base of our future diversification projects. The first phase of the Absheron project has already been approved. We expect the annual production there to be 1.5 billion cubic meters. After the agreement on the second phase, another 4-5 billion cubic meters of volume will be added, most of which will be transported to international markets,” said S. Mikayilova.

He emphasized that the annual transmission capacity of TAP, which is the European part of TANAP, built as part of the Southern Gas Corridor, is estimated at 10 billion cubic meters, and it is planned to double the transmission capacity of this pipeline:

“Investments are expected to increase further as the EU countries expand the purchase of Azerbaijani gas. As President Ilham Aliyev has previously stated, the natural gas reserves in Azerbaijan’s fields will be enough for the country and its partners for at least 100 years,” added S. Mikayilova.
