Azerbaijan, as chair of COP29, announced the launch of the “Baku Human Development Initiative for Climate Stability”. This initiative aims to strengthen cross-sectoral synergies and complementarities between education, health and employment.

As Day.Az reports, the head of the Azerbaijani delegation, the Minister of Health of Azerbaijan said this Teymur Musaev at the opening of the 74th session of the Regional Committee for Europe of the World Health Organization in Copenhagen.

In his speech, the minister emphasized that 2024 has been declared in Azerbaijan as the “Year of Solidarity for the Green World.” The order of the head of state notes that the Republic of Azerbaijan, as a reliable and responsible member of the international community, contributes to the fight against the consequences of climate change.

“Azerbaijan is always committed to the green agenda and in November this year our country will host the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change – COP29,” he said.

It should be noted that the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) will be held in November this year in Azerbaijan. This decision was made at the COP28 plenary meeting held in Dubai on December 11 last year.

The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change is an agreement signed at the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro in June 1992 to prevent dangerous human interference with the climate system. The abbreviation COP (Conference of Parties) translated from English means “Conference of Parties”, this is the highest legislative body that controls the implementation of the Framework Convention on Climate Change.

There are 198 countries that are parties to the Convention. Unless the parties agree otherwise, the COP is held annually. The first COP event took place in March 1995 in Berlin, and its secretariat is located in Bonn.
