(Reuters) – The Azerbaijan Grand Prix in Baku will remain on the Formula One calendar until at least 2026 after a three-year extension was announced on Saturday.
The country pays significant accommodation fees to Liberty Media commercial rights holders, but the city’s high-speed circuit is also a challenge for drivers and has had a reputation for crashes and excitement since its debut in 2016.
So far, no driver has won more than once in Azerbaijan.
“The Baku City Circuit has become an extremely popular venue for Formula 1,” F1 Chief Executive Stefano Domenicali said in a statement.
“It’s an incredible circuit that always offers great drama and has played host to some of the most exciting races in recent memory. We are delighted to extend our relationship.”
