For the second month in a row, Azerbaijan was the leader in terms of gas supplies to Turkey, Day.Az reported on Monday, citing data published by the Turkish Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EPDK).
Thus, the country increased natural gas exports to Turkey in May 2024, achieving a growth of 9.24 percent compared to the same period last year.
Exports increased from 923.23 million cubic meters in May 2023 to almost 1.009 billion cubic meters.
Thus, Azerbaijan became the largest exporter of natural gas to Turkey in the reporting period.
Russia came in second place, exporting 734.41 million cubic meters of natural gas, down 28.26 percent from May 2023.
Iran became the third largest exporter with 593.49 million cubic meters of natural gas, down 32.94 percent from May 2023 (885.01 million cubic meters).
Overall, Turkey has reduced gas imports by 21.94 percent, from over 3.692 billion cubic meters in May 2023 to around 2.882 billion cubic meters in May 2024.
Imports of pipeline gas decreased by 17.49 percent to 2.336 billion cubic meters, while imports of LNG (liquefied natural gas) decreased by 36.56 percent to 545.86 million cubic meters.
