Azerbaijan strongly rejects and condemns the statement of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan addressed to Azerbaijan at the ceremony dedicated to Armenia’s accession to the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court.

As Day.Az reported on Friday, this was stated in a statement by the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry.

“These statements once again demonstrate that Armenia’s accession to the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court is an attempt to use these institutions for its unfounded claims, malicious actions, propaganda of hatred, disinformation and misinterpretation of international law.

The failure of the international community to prevent Armenian aggression against Azerbaijan and end the occupation of our territories for almost 30 years, to prevent Armenia from committing mass atrocities and crimes against humanity, and to continue Armenian statements and actions that incite war have fueled a sense of impunity in this country.

Armenia’s continued claims to the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Azerbaijan, as well as incitement and propaganda of racial hatred against Azerbaijanis, contradict not only the norms and principles of international law, but also Armenia’s obligations in accordance with the ruling of the International Court of Justice of December 7, 2021 in the case “Azerbaijan v. Armenia”.

It is important that the international community remembers and insists that Armenia be held accountable for the war crimes it committed during its aggression, the tens of thousands of brutally murdered civilians, the widespread ethnic cleansing and the thousands of cities, towns and villages it razed to the ground with a single the goal is to fulfill its illegitimate territorial claims based on fabricated historical narratives and racist ideology.

The Azerbaijani side will continue its efforts to end impunity for serious violations of international law, promote the rule of law, and establish, strengthen and continue peace, security and stability in the region,” the statement said.
