Azerbaijani bodybuilding rewrote records, setting a phenomenal result at the World Cup in Santa Susanna (Spain). The team won many awards, including four gold ones, and two athletes were awarded the title of absolute champions.
As Day.Az reports with reference to İdman.biz, the rating tournament, which brought together the entire elite of world bodybuilding, exceeded all expectations.
The course of the competition showed that our team not only reached a new level, but set the tone and became the hegemon.
This is evidenced by the results: the title of absolute champions was won by Elnur Allahyarov (bodybuilding), Farid Najafli (Men’s physique), Ashur Abdullayev took first place in the junior Men’s physique competition, and Samir Mammadli (bodybuilding) also won gold. We can say that a golden team that received worldwide recognition went to Santa Susanna.
It should be noted that Santa Susanna has held the title of bodybuilding capital for recent years. World and European championships, as well as status rating tournaments, are held here.
In May, the resort town, located in the suburbs of Barcelona, hosted the continental championship, where our
the team won a total of 7 gold, 6 silver, 6 bronze awards, winning four overall titles. Moreover, the team took first overall team place in the bodybuilding competition.
The results of the World Cup, officially called the IFBB Fitness Sport Games, are no less impressive. Almost all Azerbaijani athletes made it to the finals, winning a total of four gold, two silver and four bronze medals.
Kamil Aliyev, who won silver in Men’s physique, also climbed to the podium, and the experienced Vugar Verdiyev of Tabriz Tarverdiyeva (Men’s physique) won bronze medals.
In Santa Susanna (Spain), pro-cards of the International Federation of Bodybuilding (IFBB) were also played. They give its holders the right to compete in professional tournaments.
Elnur Allahyarov and Samir Mammadli fought for the pro cards. Allahyarov, who won the overall title at the World Cup, took third place. And Mammadli, who also won the tournament, came fourth. Both of our athletes won pro cards and can now try their hand at the pros.
A serious breakthrough has occurred in the fitness bikini. Narmin Tariverdi made it to the finals and took fifth place - a serious indicator for competitions of this level.
“The team demonstrated a phenomenal result. We were glad to once again take part in the competition in Santa Susanna. A lot of positive emotions, a wonderful level of participants, an excellent performance by our team. An excellent end to the season,” said the president of the national federation, Rauf Bunyataliev.
There is no doubt that the World Cup opens a new chapter for Azerbaijani bodybuilding, which has gained incredible power in the international arena. And it seems that this is not the limit.

Interviewer (Time.news Editor): Welcome to our interview segment. Today, we have the pleasure of speaking with Dr. Leyla Asgarova, an expert in sports sciences and an avid follower of the bodybuilding scene, especially its recent developments in Azerbaijan. Dr. Asgarova, thank you for joining us!
Dr. Leyla Asgarova: Thank you for having me! I’m excited to discuss Azerbaijani bodybuilding and its recent achievements.
Editor: Let’s dive right in. Azerbaijan’s bodybuilding team recently made headlines by dominating the World Cup in Santa Susanna, Spain. What stands out to you about this achievement?
Dr. Asgarova: Absolutely, this is a significant milestone! Winning multiple gold medals, including titles for Elnur Allahyarov and Farid Najafli, demonstrates the hard work and dedication of the athletes and their coaches. It’s not just the victories, but the consistency they’ve displayed over recent competitions that indicate a growing strength in the sport within Azerbaijan.
Editor: Speaking of consistency, this isn’t the first major event where Azerbaijan excelled. They performed exceptionally well at the continental championship earlier this year too. What does this tell us about the team’s development?
Dr. Asgarova: It reflects a systematic approach to training and skill development. Over the past few years, there has been a concerted effort to invest in sports infrastructure, coaching, and athlete support. The athletes have access to better resources, which enhances their performance. Achievements at the continental level set the stage for performances like the World Cup, essentially building momentum for global competitions.
Editor: Many might not be aware, but Santa Susanna has become a pivotal location for bodybuilding competitions. Why do you think it has gained this reputation?
Dr. Asgarova: Santa Susanna has established itself as a hub for bodybuilding due to its excellent facilities and its history of hosting prestigious events. The environment, competitive spirit, and international exposure provide a platform for athletes to test their skills against the best in the world. The town’s reputation thus attracts more competitors and audiences alike, creating a cycle of excellence.
Editor: The athletes’ success also speaks to their individual dedication. Can you tell us more about some of the standout performances, particularly from the absolute champions?
Dr. Asgarova: Certainly! Elnur Allahyarov’s victory in bodybuilding and Farid Najafli’s in the Men’s physique category put them in a league of their own. Their titles reflect not only physical prowess but also strategic preparation and mental toughness. For young talents like Ashur Abdullayev, winning in the junior category is not just a win; it sets him up as a future star for the Azerbaijani team.
Editor: How important is this global recognition for Azerbaijani bodybuilding moving forward?
Dr. Asgarova: It’s crucial! This recognition helps to elevate the sport’s profile within Azerbaijan, potentially attracting sponsorships and encouraging youth participation. When athletes shine on such stages, it inspires young people to pursue bodybuilding and fitness as serious career paths. As the sport gains popularity, it can foster a broader fitness culture in the country.
Editor: What does the future hold for Azerbaijani bodybuilding based on current trends?
Dr. Asgarova: If they maintain this trajectory, I foresee Azerbaijan becoming a consistent powerhouse in bodybuilding. The infrastructure is improving, the talent pool is expanding, and with continued international focus, we may see more challengers coming out of Azerbaijan in future championships worldwide. This is just the beginning of a promising future.
