October 8, 2024 at headquarters UNESCO a presentation took place of the events that will be carried out by the Ministry of Culture of Azerbaijan within the framework of COP29.
As Day.Az was informed by the Ministry of Culture of Azerbaijan, the event, which was attended by more than 300 participants from more than 100 countries with permanent missions to UNESCO, began with opening speeches by the UNESCO Deputy Director General for Cultural Affairs Ernesto Ottone and Head of the Ecology and Geosciences Sector, Secretary of the Man and the Biosphere Program Antonio Abre.
“Making a speech at the presentation ceremony, Deputy Minister of Culture of Azerbaijan Farid Jafarov spoke about the ties between Azerbaijan and UNESCO, the role of culture in climate action and the importance of including this topic on the global agenda.
F. Jafarov also informed about the II High-Level Ministerial Dialogue, which will be held on November 15 within the framework of COP29, jointly organized by the UAE and Brazilian Ministries of Culture as co-chairs of the “Group of Friends for Culture-Based Climate Action” (GFCBCA).
The event, moderated by Ernesto Ottone, featured a presentation and video showing the Culture for Climate (C4C) initiative launched by the Ministry of Culture.
The presentation provided detailed information on the important role that culture plays in action to combat climate change and on the annual action plan, which includes projects that will be implemented in this direction.
Then, as co-chairs of the GFCBCA, the Permanent Representatives of the UAE and Brazil to UNESCO expressed support for the C4C initiative, thanking Azerbaijan for its proactive efforts to include the topic of culture on the agenda, and finally, the event participants were invited to visit Baku in November.
