Azerbaijani film “To be or to be?” (To Be or to Be?) went through several stages of selection and was among the finalists in the category “Best Documentary Film” at the Rome Film Festival – Roma Prisma Film Awards 2024, our compatriot from the Czech Republic, poet and playwright, author of the idea and co-author, told Day.Az. screenwriter of the film Leila Begim.

The main character of the film is the writer and traveler Giacomo Casanova, the author of the translation of the libretto by Louis Cahuzac of J.F. Rameau’s opera “Zoroastre” (Zarathustra). 298-year-old Giacomo returns to earth to travel from West to East, to the homeland of Zarathustra. Casanova heads to the Fire Temple, reflecting on the immortal spiritual component of life, on the boundless, timeless, universal value of earthly and extraterrestrial existence. Having built a bridge between the two oldest cities of Western and Eastern civilization, Prague and Baku, the authors of the film send their hero in search of a source of spiritual light…

The producer, co-screenwriter and main character of the film is Boris Goldberg, the art director and one of the heroines of the film is Ulviya Akhundova, the editing director and cameraman is Sarkhan Radjabov, the cameraman is Annette Baldovich. Translation – Gulnara Hall.
