Potentially, Azerbaijani gas can play a role in increasing the security of supplies in Central-Eastern Europe and diversifying sources of energy resources.

Day.Az reports that an official representative of the European Union (EU) told Trend about this.

He noted that the roadmap for energy cooperation between the EU and Azerbaijan was adopted in the summer of last year and defined in the new strategic partnership plan in the field of energy.

“On the one hand, our cooperation is related to the important role that Azerbaijan has played and will play in diversification from Russian fuel, especially due to the expansion of the Southern Gas Corridor. On the other hand, our partnership is related to the general transition to clean energy with measures in the field of energy efficiency, renewable energy sources, renewable hydrogen and prevention of unorganized methane emissions. based on the program,” the EU representative emphasized.

The source noted that the bilateral partnership is based on a comprehensive and consistent agenda, which includes a commitment to achieve a clean economy with zero waste by 2050.

“European Union Energy Commissioner Kadri Simson and Azerbaijani Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov held an energy dialogue a few weeks ago. During the dialogue, they confirmed their support for the implementation of this agenda,” the EU representative added.

Azerbaijan started supplying gas to Europe through the Southern Gas Corridor on December 31, 2020. The transmission capacity of the gas pipeline is 10 billion cubic meters with the possibility of expansion to 20 billion cubic meters. In July 2022, Azerbaijan and the EU signed a Memorandum of Understanding to double the transmission capacity of the Southern Gas Corridor by 2027.
