In preparation for the global climate conference COP29, which will take place on November 11-22 this year in Baku, Azerbaijan Operating Company COP29 together with the State Tourism Agency and the Azerbaijan Hotel Association continues to take appropriate steps to improve competence in the field of sustainable development. Thus, hotels operating in our country were involved in relevant training.
As Day.Az was informed by the press service of the Azerbaijan Operating Company COP29, the trainings developed by the Azerbaijan Operating Company COP29 based on the guiding principles of sustainable development and conducted by specialists from the relevant departments of the Operating Company are aimed at increasing the potential of the local hotel sector in the field of sustainable development and bringing it into compliance with international standards. The trainings covered hotels operating in Baku, Absheron and Sumgayit.
It should be noted that the recommendations for sustainable development developed by the Azerbaijani operating company COP29 for the hotel and guest sector combine best international experience. This document covers issues such as promoting responsible resource management, supporting local economies and ensuring inclusion, thereby contributing to positive environmental, social and economic outcomes. The instructions highlight ensuring inclusivity and accessibility for guests of all hotel infrastructure and services as one of the main priorities.
The guidance also encourages collaboration with local businesses and suppliers to reduce carbon emissions in the transport sector, recommending the implementation of appropriate infrastructure and methods to save energy consumption in this context. In addition, the document contains recommendations for reducing the carbon footprint, introducing cost-effective installations and technological innovations to conserve valuable resources such as water, as well as minimizing the generation of various wastes, including plastics, and developing an effective recycling management system.
