According to the press service of the Cinex film company, the project “My Magical World” by the Azerbaijani director Elvin Adigozel was awarded the prestigious prize of 5000 euros by the Turkish TV channel TRT. “My magical world” is the first project from Azerbaijan to participate in the First Cut Lab program within the prestigious When East Meets West forum organized by the international film festival in Trieste. This forum is a comprehensive program that supports film professionals in Europe and around the world. Films from the First Cat Lab program often later premiere at A-class international festivals such as Berlin, Venice and Cannes.
This year, in addition to the project from Azerbaijan, 8 films from Serbia, Brazil, Italy, Hungary, Slovenia, Belgium and Croatia participated in the program. Despite such strong competition, “My Magical World” was chosen as the best film. According to the members of the jury, “the decision was made to award the project, which is an interesting story composition in which the author uses a different genre approach to tell a seemingly classic story about two inseparable friends trying to be accepted by society in order to overcome their misfortunes.” We hope this award will help round out the film, which has great potential for a successful festival release.”
The film tells about two childhood friends – Babek and Salih – who perform in a village ensemble in Sabirabad region and who dream of performing in a television show in Baku. Babek falls in love with a waitress at a local cafe, after which he reevaluates his life priorities and decides to leave his former life, friends and family. At a certain point in the story, all dreams are shattered, friendships are tested, and the lives of the ensemble members are changed forever. What begins as an innocent adventure turns into a true human tragedy. Actors Jahangir Malikov, Kamil Nazim, Kamala Israfilova, Zemfira Abdul Samadova and others take part in the film. The production of the film was carried out jointly by Sineks and Ultra Production film companies, the producers of the film are Maria Ibrahimova and Emil Najafov.
Elvin Adigözel is an already famous Azerbaijani director, the author of such films as “Chameleon”, “Report from the Dark”, “A film for Rana Khanum” and “Bilasuvar”, which were screened at A-class festivals such as Locarno, Busan and Tallinn. “My Magical World” will be his fourth feature film.
